1. How much is the FORTE Reader / Editor App?

The FORTE Reader app is free. You can simply download and use it from the Google Play Store or Apple Store. With FORTE Reader you can open music files (in MusicXML, MIDI or FORTE-mobile format), read and play your scores.

The FORTE Editor is an add-on for the Reader app. You can purchase it directly in the app for a one-time fee of $9.99 (Android) / $8.99 (iOS)* to unlock the editor functions. With the editor, there are a lot more features you can use: Write your own score, edit an existing score, add staves and instruments, use various sound options in the mixer and export your score in the file format of your choice.

2. Where can I get the FORTE Reader / Editor App?

The FORTE Reader / Editor app is designed for iOS and Android. Simply open the Google Play Store or Apple Store on your mobile device, search for "FORTE Sheet Music Reader" and install the app.

3. On what devices / operating systems can I use the app?

The FORTE Reader / Editor app is suitable for iOS and Android. The app is especially optimized for tablets and iPads, but you can also use it on your iPhone or Android smartphone.

4. What's the difference between FORTE Reader and Editor?

The FORTE Reader app is a free app for both reading and listening to sheet music. You can easily download it from Google Play Store or Apple Store and use it. With FORTE Reader you can access sheet music files (in MusicXML, MIDI or FORTE-mobile format), read and play your scores.

The FORTE Editor is a complement to the Reader app. You can purchase it directly in the FORTE Reader App to unlock Editor functions. No additional installation is necessary. With the editor, you have many advanced features: Write your own score, edit an existing score, add tracks and instruments, use the many sound options of the mixer and export your score in the file format of your choice.

5. I have a new mobile device. Do I have to purchase the Editor again?

Don't worry! If you have already purchased the Editor on your old cellphone or tablet, you don't have to buy it again when you change your mobile device. Just use the "Reactivate License" function on the home screen. Please note: It is crucial that you use the same Google Play or Apple account on the new mobile device as on the old one.

6. Can I scan PDF files with the FORTE Reader / Editor App?

The FORTE Reader / Editor app lets you import, write, edit, play and export sheet music. There are other apps and programs for scanning sheet music - we highly recommend you check out ScanScore. Among other things, you can scan your PDF scores, edit the sheet music and export it into another program.

7. I already have FORTE on my Windows computer. Why do I need the App?

The FORTE Reader / Editor app offers you the possibility to write, edit, transpose or listen to notes not only on your desktop. You can now easily do this on your mobile device, no matter where you are. The convenient import and export features make it very easy to transfer your score from FORTE or other notation programs and afterwards get it back there as well.

8. Can I transfer my scores from FORTE desktop to the app?

Yes, and it's quite easy to do with FORTE 12. Go to the "Export" tab in FORTE Desktop, click on the "App" icon, and scan the QR code with your FORTE Reader / Editor app. Done! Your score is now completely loaded into the app.
