You can immediately see the effects of your layout editing in this box.<\/p>\n<p>The gray boxes symbolize the staves \u2013 please keep the gray boxes within the dotted frame.<\/p>\n<p>The option \u201cStaff Size\u201d allows you to scale the size of the staves up or down. If you select a different staff size, you can preview the result in the preview box on the right-hand side.<\/p>\n<p>If you write music for several instruments, a scale of 70 to 90% will be optimal. We also recommend the value of 70 to 90% when you\u2019re planning on many systems per page.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s look at \u201cFonts\u201d next. You can edit the global font types and sizes for your score here.<\/p>\n<p>You can also edit the lyrics as well as the numbers used to count the measures and the pages.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you can also adjust the styles of the general text, the chord names and the style of guitar charts. This principle applies to all elements.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 2 \u2013 Margins<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8565\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_2.png\" alt=\"Editing the score layout in FORTE \u2013 editing the margins\" width=\"802\" height=\"695\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_2.png 555w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_2-300x260.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_2-450x390.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 802px) 100vw, 802px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To set up the page margins for your score, click \u201cMargins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the upper area, you can select the paper size as well as switch between portrait and landscape orientation.<\/p>\n<p>The item \u201cFirst System Indent,\u201d helps you define the indent of the first system from the left and from the top of the page.<\/p>\n<p>In the lower area, you can set up the format for your left and right pages.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to print on single pages, keep the values the same for both pages.<\/p>\n<p>We generally recommend a 2cm margin for your pages, but if you need more printing space for your music, you can simply reduce the margin.<\/p>\n<p>(Please note: not all printers support borderless printing.)<\/p>\n<p>Once you set up the margins, these settings will be applied to your entire score.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 3 \u2013 Spacing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8566\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_3.png\" alt=\"Editing the score layout in FORTE \u2013 editing the spacing \" width=\"887\" height=\"769\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_3.png 555w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_3-300x260.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_3-450x390.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 887px) 100vw, 887px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe spacing settings are some of the most important layout options for your FORTE score.\u00a0Changing and adjusting the values of this tab influences the spacing of your staves, your lyrics and all the elements around your notes.<\/p>\n<p>The settings are found in \u201cSpacing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The values for \u201cStaff Spacing\u201d and \u201cSymbol Spacing\u201d refer to ledger lines above and below. They do NOT represent metric units.\u00a0For example, if you select &#8220;5&#8221; as your staff spacing above, the space of five ledger lines above the staff will be respected.<\/p>\n<p>If you select a number that is too small, you won&#8217;t be able to write notes above the staff at all. We recommend you use three to five spaces in each category.<\/p>\n<p>Your adjustments will again be instantly visible in the preview of your layout on the right-hand side.<\/p>\n<p>If you write for a piano or a grand staff, there is a separate spacing value.<\/p>\n<p>Using \u201cSymbol Spacing,\u201d you can set the spacing between the staff and your elements. Note, if I increase the value here, the <i>piano <\/i> symbol will shift upwards.<\/p>\n<p>You can set up the spacing value for your lyrics here as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefault Setup\u201d sets the general amount of measures per system and systems per page for your score.\u00a0If you write a song with a lot of lyrics and small note values, two to four measures per system should work well.<\/p>\n<p>The option \u201cSystems per Page\u201d edits the amount of systems per page. With larger scores, you\u2019ll find one or two systems enough for one page.<\/p>\n<p>Check the layout preview on the right-hand side. If the gray boxes don\u2019t fit within the borders, decrease the values until they do.<\/p>\n<p>If you still need more space on your page, go back to the spacing options, the margin options, or the staff size above.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 4 \u2013 Detailed options<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_4.png\" alt=\"Editing the score layout in FORTE \" width=\"900\" height=\"779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_4.png 557w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_4-300x259.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/layout_4-450x389.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the last tab, \u201cOptions,\u201d you can edit the display of your page and measure numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The option \u201cEnable multi-measure rests\u201d is also here.<\/p>\n<p>Within a part of your score, you can automatically merge rest measures.
