Frederick the Great, J.S. Bach and a musical dialogue<\/h2>\n

On January 24th, 2018, Frederick II celebrates his 306th birthday. Let’s celebrate with some fantastic free sheet music for “The Musical Offering” and the story behind it!<\/p>\n

And it really is quite a story, all about Frederick and Johann Sebastian.<\/p>\n

In fact, without the music-loving King of Prussia, we would have missed out on a genius piece of music by J.S. Bach.<\/p>\n

The Musical Offering<\/h2>\n

\u201cThe Musical Offering\u201d is a collection of keyboard canons, fugues and other pieces of music around the following theme:<\/p>\n

In 1747, J.S. Bach was invited to try out the latest Fortepianos belonging to King Frederick II. The story goes that the King played the theme to Bach prompting him to improvise a three-voice fugue.<\/p>\n
