Connect your keyboard with the USB cable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 312px;\" src=\"\/\/www.forte-notensatz.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_0261-e1499767514373.jpg\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"312\" height=\"234\" data-attachment-id=\"12729\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px !important; margin-top: 10px !important; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\"><strong>b. Connect the USB cable to your computer\u2019s USB port.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">As a first step, you\u2019ll need to connect your MIDI instrument (say, for example, a keyboard or an e-piano) via a USB or MIDI cable with an audio interface.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Then, start the FORTE program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">In the main menu \u201cOptions,\u201d select \u201cMIDI\u201d. In the &#8220;MIDI-In&#8221; tab you&#8217;ll find your MIDI instrument listed as \u201cDefault Recording Device.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Select your device and click \u201cApply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">If your keyboard has a sound module of its own, you might like to set it up as the default playback device. The resulting sound will be better and the recording of your music more precise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">In the tab \u201cMIDI Out,\u201d you can select the default playback device. If your MIDI device doesn\u2019t have a sound module of its own, we recommend you select \u201cVST Synth\u201d as the default playback device. This setting helps to reduce latency. (Latency refers to a short period of delay\u2013\u2013usually measured in milliseconds\u2013\u2013between an audio signal entering and emerging from a system.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">If you want your playback to always come from your midi instrument or from VST Synth, check the box \u201cAlways use default device\u201d and click \u201cApply\u201d to confirm your choice.<\/p>\n<p data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\"><strong>c. Setting up MIDI-In<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 326px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/1.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"311\" height=\"502\" data-attachment-id=\"7659\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 10px !important; margin-bottom: 0px !important; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\"><strong>d. Setting up MIDI-Out<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 325px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/2-1.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"311\" height=\"502\" data-attachment-id=\"7660\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">FORTE is now ready for recording!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">FORTE Home and FORTE Premium offer two recording options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Step mode \u2013 this means that you enter each note after the previous one. (You define the note value with either your computer mouse or the numbers on your computer keyboard. For example, 4 for a quarter note.)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Real-time mode \u2013 see &#8216;step 3b.&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 40px !important;\">Step 2: Setting up your score for recording a piano system<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Before you start entering the notes, you\u2019ll need to set up your score for recording a piano system. Especially when you\u2019re planning on recording several instruments, it\u2019s crucial that FORTE knows which track you\u2019re recording.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Open FORTE\u2019s mixer by clicking the mixer icon. You&#8217;ll find this icon in the main tabs \u201cHome\u201d and \u201cRecord\u201d on the far left. (The key combination \u201calt+3\u201d also opens the mixer.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 763px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/3.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"638\" height=\"131\" data-attachment-id=\"7649\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">The mixer will open at the bottom of your FORTE window.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Go to the track (duct) of the instrument you\u2019re planning to record. At the bottom of the duct, you&#8217;ll see a small green triangle: the \u201cPlay\u201d symbol. This means the track is selected to playback.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">If you click the green triangle, it will turn into a red circle which is the recording symbol. Now, FORTE knows you want to MIDI-record on this track with your instrument.<\/p>\n<p data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screenshot-2019-11-01-at-13.37.05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9958\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screenshot-2019-11-01-at-13.37.05-281x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screenshot-2019-11-01-at-13.37.05-281x300.jpg 281w, https:\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screenshot-2019-11-01-at-13.37.05.jpg 382w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 40px !important;\">Step 3a: MIDI record (step mode)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Recording step mode means you record every single note after the previous one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Since FORTE Basic only offers the step mode, you just need to click on the &#8220;MIDI&#8221; record button to record in\u00a0step mode.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">If you&#8217;re using FORTE Home or FORTE Premium, you\u2019ll need to click &#8220;step mode&#8221; first and then click the &#8220;MIDI&#8221; record button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 916px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/5.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"480\" height=\"187\" data-attachment-id=\"7652\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">You can use the input palette to select the note value, say a quarter, an eighth note or a sixteenth note. But you\u2019ll be faster if you use the numbers of your computer keyboard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">A \u201c4\u201d is a quarter, an \u201c8\u201d stands for the eighth note, a \u201c6\u201d for the sixteenth and so on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">To find your computer keyboard layout go to the main tab \u201cHelp,\u201d and then to \u201cKeyboard Layout.\u201d Click the Stop button when you are finished.<\/p>\n<p data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 40px !important;\">Step 3b: MIDI record in real-time (FORTE Premium and Home only)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Real-time mode allows you to record your music alongside the metronome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">FORTE interprets the note values of your music automatically. The main tab \u201cRecord\u201d shows you a range of options regarding this type of recording.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Next to the metronome, you&#8217;ll see the \u201cRegion\u201d tab which refers to a region of measures you can choose from for recording.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">If you want to record several versions of a region, you can set up a loop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Furthermore, FORTE can lead you in before recording. (If you have loop mode activated, the lead-in is repeated with each new loop as well.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 1069px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/6.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"638\" height=\"98\" data-attachment-id=\"7653\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">The \u201cOptions\u201d tab (to the right of \u201cRecord\u201d) allows you to choose what you would like FORTE to do with your already entered music once you start a new recording or a new loop.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 1049px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/7.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"640\" height=\"578\" data-attachment-id=\"7654\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Now you\u2019ve set all the parameters, simply click the red record button to start recording. Click the Stop button when you are finished.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 1016px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/8.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"540\" height=\"347\" data-attachment-id=\"7655\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 40px !important;\">Quantization: Have FORTE correct the note values automatically<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Because we\u2019re human and not robots, it can be difficult to play with a precise\/exact timing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">And so, FORTE is designed to further support your music writing by &#8216;quantizing&#8217; your recorded notes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">You can select the smallest note value of your recorded music, and by using quantization, your score is adjusted automatically.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">To start quantizing your music, go to the main tab \u201cRecord.\u201d On the right side of the menu ribbon, you&#8217;ll see \u201cQuantization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Click \u201cNotes\u201d and the property window will open.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Select the parameters you want to quantize (for example, the starting time, the duration etc.) as well as the division of the quarter note. (It\u2019s crucial to select the smallest note value of your recorded music here, for example, 16th notes.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 311px;\" src=\"\/\/www.fortenotation.com\/en\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/9.png\" alt=\"Noten \u00fcber MIDI einspielen\" width=\"286\" height=\"417\" data-attachment-id=\"7647\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 40px !important;\">More options and MIDI-routing for professionals<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">Go to the main tab \u201cOptions\u201d and select \u201cMIDI-In,\u201d and then \u201cRouting\u201d to select all the details regarding the MIDI channels selected for recording.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Georgia','serif';\" data-web-font=\"Georgia, serif\">In this same window, you can select the split point. The split point defines the pitch which is used to divide\/split your notes between tracks or voices.
