The reason I didn’t buy Forte 9 is that I can’t use my Forte 8 because all my musician friends have Forte 5 and any work I do with Forte 8 can’t be used by my friends.
Contrary to Word (for example) I can’t save my work with Forte 8 in an earlier version like I can with Word.
Buying Forte 9 would only have contributed to further isolate me from my musician friends (violin players).
I do appreciate my Forte 8 and probably would love Forte 9 but it would be for my eyes (and ears) only…

thank you for your comment.
FORTE scores are not compatible with earlier versions, that’s correct.
Many improvements could not be displayed correctly in the earlier version and would result in corrupted files.
That’s one of the reasons why upgrade rates are very low.
Here’s an idea, though:
Maybe you can discuss an ensemble package with your friends?
